In December 2015 150 healthcare, sports and public health professionals met at Get Physical, an event exploring how physical activity might be incorporated into the daily lives of patients and NHS staff across Milton Keynes, Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire to improve their health and wellbeing.
Get Physical was organised by the Oxford Academic Health Science Network (Oxford AHSN) with Public Health England, the county sports partnerships of Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire, Health Education England Thames Valley and Occupational Health from Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (NHS FT) and Oxford Health NHS FT.
The Steering Committee has met to consider the outcomes of the meeting including delegate feedback, and has prioritised the following actions:
- Starting up a quarterly ‘Get Physical’ newsletter aimed at healthcare professionals
- Running a motivational interviewing course (building staff confidence to have conversations around health and wellbeing)
- Hosting a half-day event aimed at HR directors and senior managers in commercial and healthcare-related sectors
You can read the first of our ‘Get Physical’ newsletters here. It aims to capture the best of the best from around the region to inspire, inform and support a community of professionals with an interest in growing participation in physical activity to improve physical and mental health and wellbeing for patients and staff.
