Quicker stroke care: AI tool supports clinical decision-making

Quicker stroke care: AI tool supports clinical decision-making. Includes image of brain and line drawing of brainWe have been working with Integrated Stroke Delivery Networks (ISDNs) across England to roll out and evaluate brain imaging technology which incorporates artificial intelligence (AI) at 24 acute stroke sites, supporting clinical decision-making by sharing high quality CT brain scans quickly and securely, speeding up access to stroke treatment, preventing long-term disability and improving patient outcomes.

Results are embedded in a secure communication platform accessible on smart phones and NHS systems, connecting hospitals with specialist centres to ensure more patients get the right treatment as quickly as possible.

A link has been identified between adoption of AI decision-aid tools, such as e-Stroke by Brainomix which we have been evaluating, and increasing rates of mechanical thrombectomy (MT) – an NHS Long Term Plan priority. A health economic evaluation has also found financial and other benefits to the NHS.
