Evaluating how system-wide funding can support leadership, culture and focus on health inequalities

Over two years, the BOB Integrated Care System Health Inequalities and Prevention Programme supported a wide range of initiatives aimed at reducing health inequalities and improving prevention for underserved communities. The independent evaluation found that the programme strengthened collaboration between NHS, local authority and voluntary sector partners, increased workforce knowledge and skills, and enabled locally tailored approaches to meet community needs. While evidence of system-wide reductions in health inequalities is not yet available, the programme has generated valuable learning, improved partnership working and highlighted the importance of data-driven commissioning, robust evaluation and sustained investment. The findings provide a strong foundation for future neighbourhood-based approaches to prevention and population health improvement.
